County - Brunswick Built - 1817 Operational - No Height - 90 Feet Signal Visible - 18 miles Nickname "Old Baldy" the light house was downgraded to a low-intensity, steady light in the early 1900's, and discontinued in 1935. It produced a radio beacon from 1941 to 1958 to direct ships into the Cape Fear River Channel in times of heavy fog. Today it is a restored historical site and emits a long steady beam. |
