County - Currituck Built - 1875 Operational - Yes Height - 162 Feet Signal Visible - 19 miles Also known simply as the Currituck Lighthouse, it was first activated in December of 1875 and completed the chain of lighthouse along the North Carolina coast. The lighthouses at Currituck, Cape Hatteras, and Bodie Island were all modeled after the Cape Lookout Lighthouse. To help distinguish it from the others, the Currituck Lighthouse was never painted. |
