The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is the talles lighthouse in the United States. Since 1803 it has warned sailors of the area known as the "Graveyard of the Atlantic". Erosion is a threat and efforts are ongoing to preserve the lighthouse and keep it from falling into the sea.
