Hyperlinking Text/Graphics
As you develop your
web page, you will, more than likely, create more than one individual
page. You may develop an "important information" page where you post
pertinent class information and/or upcoming events. In order to
connect between pages, you will need to insert a "hyperlink." You
may hyperlink text and graphics (pictures). To do this, you will
need to insert either (text or graphic), and follow the steps below.
Please note that for this tutorial, I will hyperlink
both text and a graphic.
The next step is to highlight
the selected text/graphic. Afterwards, there are two ways to create
a hyperlink. The first way is to right click with your mouse on the
area you have highlighted. Afterwards, a selection box will appear,
with the bottom selection being the word "hyperlink." Click this.
I will illustrate this with the
text only.

Afterwards, a window
will appear entitled "Insert Hyperlink."

A list of files
and folders will be present; you will need to choose the file or folder in
which the file you have created for this page. Afterwards, the title
of the file will appear in the "Address" field at the bottom of the
window. Click OK.

When you click OK, the page will reappear, and the text will change color
and be underlined. This lets you know that the text has been
successfully hyperlinked.

You have now successfully hyperlinked
the text to the designated page. Now, the second way to hyperlink
will be illustrated utilizing
the graphic only. As
before, you will click the area you would like to hyperlink; in this case,
the graphic. Note that you will NOT highlight the graphic; when you
click it, you will see an outline with dotted borders around the graphic.
This lets you know that you have successfully selected the graphic to be
hyperlinked. You may right click on the graphic as you did the text;
however, we will not take this route, since we are going the alternate
method of hyperlinking here. Next, you will find the hyperlink
button on the toolbar; it is illustrated below.

You will click on the button, and the same window will appear as before,
entitled "Insert Hyperlink." You will go through the same steps as
before, and you will click OK. This will serve to successfully
hyperlink the graphic to the designated file location.

When the window disappears, the graphic
has been successfully hyperlinked; however, unlike text, it will not the
highlighted or underlined. A note that will assist in the future:
after you insert a hyperlink, if you would like to be sure that it is
correctly linked and working, you may do that illustrated below.
On the hyperlinked text and/or graphic, place your cursor (mouse pointer).
Note that my cursor does NOT show here; however, the result does. A
box that reads "Use Ctrl+Click to follow a hyperlink" will appear.
You can use this command on your keyboard in order to follow this
hyperlink to the page. This is a good method of checking if your
hyperlinks are working, and if they are routing you users to the correct
locations on the web. Also, in the bottom, left corner of your
screen, you will notice that a URL (web address) appears. This shows
you the address of the page to which this hyperlinked text and/or graphic
leads.
