Guidelines for Art

  1. BE ON TIME FOR CLASS!

  1. Be in your seat and quiet for attendance and opening of class.  If you are continuing a project from the previous day, go ahead and get your materials, so you can be working on that project when class starts.

  1. Be respectful to teacher and other students.

  1. Sleeping is not allowed in class.

  1. According to SCHS policy, you must make up any work missed due to an excused absence within 5 days.  After that time, you will automatically receive a zero for the missed work.  It is your responsibility to see me about making up the work at a convenient time.  I will not mention this to you unless you inquire.  To ignore make up work often results in a serious drop in grades since any zero must be averaged into the total grade at the end of the grading period.

  1. You are not allowed to do other class’s work during art class time.  This time is for art project and art assignments.

  1. All assignments and extra credit will be due one week before the end of the grading period.

  1. Your participation grade is an important part of your grade.  It will be determined by your behavior in class.  Excessive talking, disruptive behavior, sleeping in class, gum chewing, or eating in class will result in an unsatisfactory grade.

  1. The art department operates on a small limited budget.  Please show care and respect for the art supplies.  Destruction and theft will not be tolerated.  A note will be sent to the principal – parents will be notified – fee will be charged.  This will also apply to other student’s work.

  1. NEVER HANDLE ANOTHER STUDENT’S WORK EVEN IF IT LOOKS COOL!  If we respect each other’s belongings we can usually expect our own belongings to be respected by others.

  1. NO THROWING OF ANY MATERIALS!!!

  1. Students will be permitted to go to the restroom only in the event of an emergency.  Please stop at the restroom before and after class.

  1. I would appreciate it if all students stay out of my office and supply room unless you have permission.  If there is a still life on the front table, please do not touch it.  The slightest movement could ruin it for other students.  Materials on the bookcases and shelves should be avoided.

  1. All students are expected to do their own work.  Copying someone else’s homework, copying from another person’s paper during a test, or carrying hidden information to a test are all examples of cheating.  Any student found guilty to this will receive a zero on the work in question.  Parents will also be notified when this occurs.  You need to be aware of the serious consequences of cheating, and should be determined to never participate in such an activity.  It is much less serious to fail a test with a 40 or a 50 than to receive a zero for cheating.

  1. Students please keep the art room clean!  Please clean up your area before leaving to go to your next class.  Clean any brushes, pick up any trash from candy and drinks.  If this is not done, then you will lose the privilege of eating in art class.  This is also part of your participation grade.

  1. I will be happy to have conferences with your parents.  Please call the school office and make appointments between 2:45 and 3:00.  I would prefer your parents not call me at home, but see me during school hours.

  1. Even though this is an elective course, it will demand a lot of time and effort.  This may not be as easy as you think.  Please come to class with a good attitude, materials and be ready to work.
