
Please welcome Ms. Sherone Hough, the new principal of East Columbus Jr.-Sr. High School!
Ms. Hough is a dedicated educator with a deep love for teaching. Her family background in Riegelwood, NC, includes her late father, James Reginald Carter, and her mother, Mrs. Queen Tarte, who have inspired her strength and commitment.
As a mother to her son, Christopher Jamon Hough, Ms. Hough finds joy and inspiration in guiding him through life’s lessons.
The eldest of three sisters, Ms. Hough has shown leadership both at home and in her career. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Bennett College and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Coastal Carolina University.
With 24 years of experience, Ms. Hough has made a significant impact in education. She started in the Darlington County School District as a science teacher and later worked as a Curriculum Coordinator for Math and Science. Her role as an Assistant Principal at Darlington Middle School further highlighted her dedication to education.
In 2019, Ms. Hough returned to North Carolina and joined the Whiteville City School District. As an Assistant Principal at Central Middle School and Edgewood Elementary School, she continues to live by her motto, “Each one, teach one, to reach one,” and is passionate about curriculum development and helping students and teachers reach their full potential.
Ms. Hough’s work reflects her belief that education is a powerful tool for growth and empowerment. Her dedication and nurturing approach make her a true inspiration in every classroom she touches.


This week, we celebrate Arts in Education Week! We pay tribute to the dedicated educators and supporters who enrich students' lives through the arts. The arts are instrumental in preparing our students for the future, offering invaluable experiences to enhance their studies- and their lives.





There will be a community feedback session at ECJSHS on Tuesday, September 10th. Join us to learn about the new K-8 school on the eastern end and share your thoughts on the facility. This is a drop-in event, so feel free to stop by anytime between 6:00 and 8:00 PM.

Good afternoon! Here's what's happening at East Columbus this week . Bus 189 has a new driver for the morning and afternoon route. Gator family help us welcome Mr. Brandon Southern. Our goal this year is to improve absenteeism and tardies. Parents please make sure students arrive to campus before 8am.

Middle school students from CCS participated in a special MarineQuest camp today on the campus of UNCW.

There is a JV and Varsity volleyball match against East Bladen tomorrow at East Columbus beginning at 4:30pm. On Thursday boys soccer will travel to West Bladen and Friday the football team will travel to Hobbton High. Bus 189 will continue to have a sub driver for the morning and afternoon route. Thanks! Good afternoon! Attention all middle school parents and students, middle school soccer will continue tomorrow immediately after school. Girls report to room 217 and boys report to room 302.

There will be no school on Monday, September 2nd, in observance of Labor Day.

Good morning. This is a friendly reminder that East Columbus will host Open House today from 4-7pm. There will be an orientation meeting for all middle school parents at 6pm in the auditorium. High school students and parents will meet with the teachers and counselor individually. We hope to see you there!

All staff members attended convocation today at East Columbus Jr.-Sr. High School. The day focused on initiating our new Learning Framework, developed by the Curriculum and Instruction Department. Superintendent Beck also shared his vision for the upcoming year. Additionally, we recognized our Principals and Teachers of the Year. Congratulations to Kristie Leinthall, Principal of the Year from Acme Delco Elementary, and Dr. Anthony Martin, Teacher of the Year from East Columbus Jr.-Sr. High. We extend our gratitude to the faculty and staff of East Columbus Jr.-Sr. High for their outstanding work in hosting the event.
