Hallsboro-Artesia Elementary School is about to embark on a school-wide book drive unlike any other! Starting on Thursday, October 3, 2024, the school will launch their Books Are Fun Book Blast. This literacy initiative helps our students build their home libraries while also helping the school to get more books and school supplies. No matter what, this program ensures all the students at the school will take home at least one new, fun, age-appropriate book for their home libraries. However, with the help of the community, friends, and family, students can earn up to 10 books! How does this all work? Students send out invitations to friends and family members to help them reach their goal of taking home all 10 books on their grade-level list. So, if you receive an invitation from a student you know, please click on the link in the invitation and help that child by contributing on their personal contribution page. 100% of the contributions they receive first go towards the books on their book list and then help other students needing books too. Any remaining contributions after every student earns all 10 books will go toward more books for the school and classroom supplies. Let’s help Hallsboro-Artesia Elementary School reach their goal of every student taking home all 10 books! If you don’t know a student at the school or receive an invitation to contribute, but you’d still like to help all students at Hallsboro-Artesia Elementary School take home more books, you can contribute at:

Good Evening Panthers! This is Dr. Hill with your weekly announcements!
1. Our candyman fundraiser has begun here at HAES! We appreciate all of the support our parents and community provide during our first Fall Fundraiser. All of the proceeds go back to the school and help with our monthly PBIS celebrations and Guardian Gala in the Spring. The student that sells the most will get to "pie the principal" and win $100! Please help support our school.
2. Fall picture information will be going home with your child this week. Our picture day is October 1st. Please make your calendars.
3. Book Blast starts on October 3rd. More information regarding bookblast with be forthcoming. This is a wonderful opportunity to get books in the hands of each student at no cost!
4. Please remember to not block the road to the right of the school. Please use the this road to turn around in the back of the school to avoid cars having to stop on the curve. This is extremely important and creates a very dangerous situation for parents during pick up and drop off.
5. Kindergarten Parents: All health Assessment Forms are due to Nurse Karen by September 24th. After this day, if students do not have the require health form they will not be allowed to attend school. For more information, please contact Nurse Karen on the Remind App or by calling the school.
6. Lastly, no transportation changes may be made over the phone. These must be done in person or written notification-- notes must be turned into the front office. We also stop our early departures at 2pm daily.
Have a wonderful evening and we look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.

Due to ongoing flooding and the potential for hazardous travel conditions, Columbus County Schools will conduct Remote Instruction on Tuesday, September 17th, 2024. This applies to both students and staff. Schools will provide additional details regarding assignments and remote learning procedures. Students will be allowed to make up work missed during Remote Instruction. All extracurricular activities are canceled.
We understand that closing schools for in-person instruction is disruptive and that students benefit most from being in the classroom. However, the safety of our students, parents, and staff is our highest priority. Based on current reports and observed conditions, traveling to and from our campuses could be dangerous tomorrow, particularly in the areas hardest hit by the flooding.
We aim to resume in-person instruction on Wednesday, September 18th, provided conditions improve. We will keep you informed of any updates to this plan.

Last year the students of Hallsboro-Artesia Elementary School came together to create a beautiful collaborative feather mural. Today it was proudly hung on the wall! Each student contributed a uniquely decorated feather, symbolizing individuality and the power of teamwork. This vibrant mural is now a reminder that when we work together, we can create something truly amazing. Great job, Panthers! 🖌️✨ #Teamwork #PantherPride #StudentCreativity #HallsboroArtesiaElementary

Good Afternoon Panthers! This is Dr. Hill with your weekly update for the week of September 1, 2024.
1. Please remember that we have no school tomorrow in observance of Labor Day. Students will come back on Tuesday, September 3rd.
2. This year, one of our goals is to improve our late arrivals of early dismissals. Leaving early not only disrupts your child's learning but also takes time away from meeting your child's academic needs. Please limit the number of late arrivals and early checkouts as much as possible.
3. If you have not already done so, please make sure that you sign up for REMIND app. The remind app is most convenient way to communicate with your child's teacher. This is extremely important because our teachers here at HAES use the app to also give important information and announcements for the class.
4. I want to thank all parents for a successful first week of school. We have worked extremely hard to ensure that students were safe and learning this week. I also want to thank parents for your patience when it comes to the bus and car pick up and drop off. As we get the year going these things become much easier and the flow becomes much faster. Thank you for all that you have done.
5. Here are a few reminders to remember as we get started in the year. No transportation changes may be made over the phone. These must be done in person or written notification. We also stop our early departures at 2pm daily. We are still looking for volunteers here at HAES. If you want to volunteer please make sure that you get a volunteer form and return it to your child's homeroom teacher or the office. You will also need a copy of a social security card, license and 10 dollars.
We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday. Have a wonderful evening!
