Announcements:
Thank you to all our parents and guardians who attended our first semester awards day to help celebrate our students’ academic achievements. We are very proud of all our students’ academic successes!
1. On Thursday, February 13th, 2025, we will hold a Valentines Day Dance for our students from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. Admission cost to the dance will be $8.00 and will include a slice of pizza and a drink! We will also hold Bingo night for our parents in the media center during this time. The first board will be $5.00 and each additional board will be $1.00. Each game will have prizes available until they are all won! There will be pizza and snacks available for $2.00 each and drink will be $1.00. We invite everyone to attend this festive holiday event!
2. Attendance is important at ADES for our students! Remember we are striving to achieve a 95-96 % attendance rate weekly. For the week of January 31st, the attendance rate for ADES was 92.98%. The following grade levels had the highest attendance rate: In 3rd place is 5th grade with a 93.46% attendance rate. In second place is first grade with an attendance rate of 94.22% attendance rate and in first place is 4th grade with an attendance rate of 95.12%! Congratulations to our 4th grade students. Please remember that students learn best when in school with their teacher and teacher assistants.
3. February 14th will be an optional workday for teachers and staff and there will be no school for students.
4. Our Battle of the Books Team will be selling Valentine Candy Grams daily during lunch. The cost will be $1.00 each and proceeds will support our Battle of the Books team participating in the Columbus County district competition at the end of February! Students will be able to send a heart lollipop and valentine message to friends, family, favorite teachers, etc.
5. Please remember that our school day starts promptly at 7:45 AM and ends at 3:00 PM. We ask that all students attend school regularly and to arrive on time as well as stay the entire instructional day!

Columbus County Schools Statement on Recent Changes to Federal Immigration Enforcement
Columbus County Schools remains dedicated to fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students and staff. We are aware of the concerns raised by recent changes in federal immigration enforcement policies within our community. Please be assured that we are actively addressing these concerns to ensure the well-being of our families.
Our legal counsel has provided guidance, and our administrators have been trained on the appropriate steps to take in the event that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) visits one of our schools. We will adhere to these protocols to ensure full compliance with the legal requirements outlined in the guidance we’ve received.
As of now, there have been no reports of any involvement from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) within our schools. Columbus County Schools is fully committed to upholding federal laws while remaining dedicated to the students we serve, prioritizing a caring, safe, and inclusive school environment.
As we continue to assess the implications of these changes in immigration enforcement, Columbus County Schools will maintain open communication with our parents, faculty, and staff. Thank you to everyone who supported our BETA club through our fundraisers by purchasing doughnuts, candy grams or attending the winter Semi-Formal. WE raise the funds to cover the cost of the trip for our students to be able to attend the State Conference this past weekend! Our students had a wonderful learning experience and are making plans to return next year! Huge shout out to Mrs. Parker and Mr. Waddell for organizing this event! We especially want to thank all parents and staff who attended this conference with our students to chaperone or drive our students safely to and from Greensboro! We truly appreciate your support! We would like to say Congratulations to Lilah Walker who placed 4th in the Elementary Creative Writing category and Karissa Smith who placed 2nd in the Onsite Elementary Drawing category! 1. CCS will be on a normal schedule tomorrow, January 27th. Buses will run and will be cautious and safe with all areas! We encourage everyone car riders, staff members, etc. to use caution when driving to school in the morning! Safety first please!
2. On January 28th and 29th we will administer the second set of NC Check-Ins for Reading and Math to all students in grades 3 through 6. We ask that all students arrive to school by 745 am so that we may start testing at 8:00 AM. We also ask that students have a full 8hrs of sleep the night before testing and eat a healthy breakfast!
3. On January 29th and 30th we will continue to administer the MOY Dibels assessments to our Kindergarten students. We ask that all kindergarten students to be on time for school, have a full night of sleep, and eat a healthy breakfast before testing!
4. January 29th, 2nd 9-week’s Report Cards Sent home with students.
5. January 30th, the BETA club will host a Winter Semi-formal Dance from 530:7:30 PM. We ask that all students who attend to dress up for this event! 1. Students and staff will return to school on January 6th on a normal schedule.
2. Students in Grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade will be taking the Middle of the Year Reading Assessment for Dibels from January 8th through the 31st and students in grades 3 through 6 will be taking the Middle of the Year Diagnostic for I-ready in Reading and Math from January 10th through January 24th!
