📣 HAES Weekly Updates 📣
Good afternoon, Hallsboro-Artesia families! 🐾
💕💕Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers at HAES and to all of the women and men who have stepped into those roles. We appreciate all of the love and support you give our students each and every day. 💐
💯We would also like to thank everyone who made Teacher Appreciation Week so special. Here at HAES, we celebrate everyone because it truly takes every single employee to make a difference each and every day. We had countless churches and volunteers reach out to help make it such a special week, and we are incredibly grateful for your generosity and support.
📋 A Note for All Students in Grades 3–6
A note went home last week regarding permission to remediate and retest. Every child in the district received this note. This is simply to ensure that we have permission in place in case your child does not pass the first time.
Please know this is not an indication or prediction that your child will not pass. As always, teachers will communicate directly with families, and any decisions regarding remediation or retesting will be made on a case-by-case basis.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher, Mrs. Deal, or myself.
🎉 New Attendance Incentive (Grades 3–6)
We are excited to partner with the Friends of the Rue McCrary Memorial Library to reward perfect attendance!
Let’s finish strong! 💪
⏰ Attendance Reminder
We are in the final stretch of the school year, and every minute matters. Students are engaged in:
• Daily instruction
• Interventions
• Review and test preparation
Please ensure students remain at school for the full instructional day whenever possible.
🌎 Another huge thank you goes out to Mrs. Kissam and all of the volunteers who helped make our Cultural Fair such a success! Students had the opportunity to learn about Native American, Asian American, Hispanic American, and African American cultures.
We are incredibly blessed to have such diversity represented within our student population, and it was wonderful to see students interacting, learning, and celebrating the many cultures that make HAES so special. ❤️
🚌 Transportation Changes & After-School Plans
We do not make transportation changes over the phone or through the Remind app.
If your child will be going home a different way (including ballgames, practices, or alternate drop-off locations), we must have:

Columbus County Schools was honored to receive a Certificate of Appreciation, and Hallsboro-Artesia Elementary School was proudly recognized as a Purple Star School.
The Purple Star designation is awarded to schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families. These schools go above and beyond to ensure smooth transitions for students who may frequently move due to military assignments. They provide dedicated staff support, maintain resources for military families, and foster a welcoming, inclusive environment where military children feel valued and understood.
Mrs. Amber Howard joined Mr. Beck in accepting this prestigious recognition on behalf of HAES. This honor reflects the school’s ongoing dedication to meeting the unique social, emotional, and academic needs of military-connected students and ensuring every child feels supported and at home.
