📚✨ HAES African American Trivia – Day 1! ✨📚
Today was our first day of African American Trivia in celebration of Black History Month! 🇺🇸🖤💛❤️
Our question was:
What is the name of the historian who conceived what is now known as Black History Month?
📞🥁 And our first caller with the correct answer was…
🎉 Tonya Maynor, 2nd Grade! 🎉
Way to go, Tonya! We are so proud of you for knowing that the answer is Carter G. Woodson! 👏🏾📖
We can’t wait for tomorrow’s trivia question. HAES students, keep studying and be ready to call in!

During the conference, you will learn about your child’s strengths, areas for growth, and ways we can work together to support their success. To schedule your conference, please contact your child’s teacher directly.

For over four decades, Mrs. Darlene Graham has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of students at Hallsboro-Artesia. She has made countless sacrifices for the community surrounding her alma mater and has continually served by giving back to the Waccamaw Siouan Tribe. As of yesterday, Mrs. Graham has officially retired from HAES—but we know she will never truly be a stranger in Panther Country. She will continue to share her knowledge and advocate for the acknowledgement and betterment of Native Americans across North Carolina. We love you, Mrs. Darlene. Congratulations on a well-deserved retirement!

💙🐾 Welcome Back, Panther Families! 🐾💙

We hope everyone had a restful and joyful winter break! We are excited to welcome our students back to Hallsboro-Artesia Elementary as we begin a fresh start to the new semester.

📌 Important Reminders for the Week:
🍧 Kona Ice will be on campus next Monday. Please send money with your child if they would like to participate.

⏰ Late arrivals and early checkouts impede instruction.
Research shows that even missing 10–15 minutes of instructional time can disrupt learning, cause students to miss key directions, and make it harder for them to stay engaged throughout the day. To support student success, please make every effort to have your child arrive on time and remain for the full school day.

🚌 Transportation changes cannot be made over the phone. All transportation changes must follow district procedures and be communicated in writing.

💛 A special note for our Kindergarten and Pre-K families:
As we return from the holiday break, please give our youngest Panthers a little extra grace. It can take them a bit longer to adjust back to school routines, and we appreciate your patience and support.

📅 Important Dates to Remember:
• Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday (No School): Monday, January 19, 2026
• DIBELS Testing: Our DIBELS testing will begin next week for Kindergarten–3rd Grade students. This middle-of-the-year assessment helps us monitor progress and guide instruction.

We can’t wait to see our Panthers back on campus, learning and growing together!

Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
One Team. One Voice. 💙🐾
