Some of our amazing HAES Beta Students chose service over free time—and we couldn’t be more proud!
They spent their Friday afternoon cleaning up Elizabeth Brinkley Park and helping prepare for our annual community egg hunt by hiding eggs for families to enjoy. 🐣🌸
Because of their hard work, the park was cleaner, brighter, and ready for a fun-filled event for our community!

🔎Mystery at HAES: The Case of the Missing Tests! 🔍
Mrs. Russ’s class went on an exciting mission to uncover the culprit behind the missing tests—just in time to save Spring Break! 🕵️♂️🌸
Using their skills in inference, context clues, and identifying the main idea, students worked together to solve the mystery. After carefully analyzing the evidence, they discovered that the culprit was none other than… Coach Padgett!
What a fun and engaging way to put critical thinking skills into action! 👏📚

🍫 World’s Finest Chocolate Fundraiser
Our fundraiser is still going strong! So far, our two top sellers are Amaree Freeman in Mrs. Archie’s class and Paisley Watts in Mrs. McGee’s class! Both students have sold over 20 boxes—and still have more out there to sell! 🎉
Remember, after selling 10 boxes, each child will receive $10 back for every additional box sold.
Let’s keep the momentum going—especially over Spring Break!

🧸 Pre-K Career Day – April 20th
Our Pre-K students deserve their own career experience! We are planning a special Pre-K Career Day on April 20th.
If you would like to volunteer or participate, please let me know—we would love your support!
📋 Proctors Needed for End-of-Year Testing
As we prepare for End-of-Grade assessments, we are seeking volunteers to serve as testing proctors.
If you are an approved volunteer and willing to help, please contact Mrs. Christy Deal through the front office.
🎉 New Attendance Incentive (Grades 3–6)
The Friends of the Rue McCrary Memorial Library have graciously partnered with us to reward perfect attendance!
Beginning Monday, students in grades 3–6 with perfect attendance (no early checkouts or late arrivals) will be entered into a weekly drawing pool.
At the end of four weeks, students still in the pool will be entered into a $50 gift card drawing, with one winner per grade level! We will hold this drawing twice in the last 8 weeks of school!
This is a wonderful opportunity to reward students for showing up and staying engaged!

We are in the final stretch of the school year, and every minute matters.
Our students are engaged in daily interventions and instruction from bell to bell. It is extremely important that students remain at school for the full day whenever possible.

HAES is thankful for Ms. Baker! Below is a note from her about this year's wonderful Celebrate the Arts Event!
We are incredibly proud of 6th grader Christopher Donnelly for representing Hallsboro Artesia Elementary School at the Columbus County Schools Celebrate the Arts Festival this weekend! 🎨✨
Christopher participated in the Middle School Art Clinic, where students explored the unique assemblage style inspired by artist Joseph Cornell. Through this experience, he thoughtfully designed and created his own shadow box using a variety of found objects, textures, and layered imagery.
From planning and sketching to constructing and refining his final piece, Christopher demonstrated creativity, focus, and artistic risk-taking throughout the entire process. His finished work is a beautiful reflection of both his imagination and the skills he developed during the clinic.
✨ In addition, Christopher was awarded Best of Show for Hallsboro/Artesia for his outstanding character figure sketches—an incredible accomplishment! ✨
A special thank you to Laura Bernstein for leading such a meaningful, inspiring Middle School Art Clinic experience for our students. Your guidance and passion for the arts made a lasting impact!

Last week, we kicked off our World’s Finest Chocolate spring fundraiser! Students who returned their participation forms have received their chocolate boxes. We already have a student who has sold over 10 boxes—way to go! 🎉
Please keep it going, as this is our largest and most successful fundraiser of the year. We truly appreciate your continued support!

🚍 Career on Wheels – Tomorrow!
Tomorrow is our Career on Wheels community event at Southeastern Community College. This is a rotating field trip:
• K–2 will leave campus at approximately 8:15 AM
• A group of 3rd–5th grade students will leave at 10:30 AM
• 6th grade will leave around 12:00 PM
Please make sure students arrive on time, especially our K–2 students. Any student who arrives late and misses the bus will not be able to attend.
It is imperative that we adhere to this schedule, as this is a countywide event with all Columbus County Schools participating.

Celebrate the Arts, North Carolina’s largest student arts festival, will take place tomorrow, Saturday, March 21st, from 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM at West Columbus High School. Admission is free.
