Here is an update to our events for the week. On Thursday, the Columbus County Dance Festival will take place in the West Columbus High School Auditorium at 7pm. Please join in celebrating our talented students.

Here are some reminders for this week. On Monday evening, our Powder Puff championship game will take place at Viking Field. On Tuesday, the Annual FFA Gold Card Banquet will be held in the WCHS Cafeteria. On Wednesday, the Apprenticeship Open House will be held at Southeastern Community College. On Thursday, the annual Dance Festival will take place at South Columbus High School at 7 pm. On Thursday, our FFA will compete in the Eastern Region Livestock Judging competition. Tryouts for our Boys Basketball teams will be held Monday at 3:00 pm in the WCHS Gym. All student-athletes trying out for these teams must have a completed physical and Concussion Documentation. On Friday, our Basketball teams tip off their seasons at home versus North Brunswick, with our JV Boys tipping off at 4:30 pm. All spectators are reminded that ticket limitations, no bag policy, and spectator mandatory seating in bleachers will be enforced for all basketball games. On Saturday, November 9 our JROTC Viking Battalion marched in the annual Whiteville Veterans Day Parade. Several other Vikings also participated in this celebration, with all representing WCHS with pride! GO VIKINGS!!

On Friday, November 8 the West Columbus High School Chapter of the National Honor Society inducted 30 charter members. We are proud of these Vikings, who display the scholarship, service, leadership, and character that signify members of this distinguished society. Thank you to our chapter sponsor, Mrs. Alicia Thompson, for organizing this ceremony and providing our students with this opportunity. GO VIKINGS!!

West Columbus High School is proud to announce that our very own Kenzie Nix was selected as UNCP Teacher Cadet of the Month for November! Kenzie, a Senior Viking, was selected as the winner from nominations across the state by the UNCP selection panel. She received a certificate, goodie bag, t-shirt, and her very own yard sign to display at her house! We are so proud of Kenzie for this amazing accomplishment! Congratulations, Kenzie!!

Here are some reminders for this week at WCHS. On Tuesday, the ASVAB will be administered on the WCHS campus for interested students. On Wednesday, NC Check-Ins for Biology will be administered. Also on Wednesday, the Student Poetry Workshop will be held at CCS Central Services from 10 am to 2 pm. On Thursday, our Powder Puff championship game will take place at 6 pm. On Friday and Saturday, our FFA will compete in the State Land Judging Competition. On Friday, our Varsity Football team competes in the first round of the NCHSAA 1A state playoffs at KIPP Pride High School in Gaston County. Kickoff for Friday's game is scheduled for 7:00 pm. On Saturday, our WCHS Dance students perform at the Minnie Evans Arts Center at Ashley High School in Wilmington. In observance of Veterans Day, all schools will be closed on Monday, November 11th. This important day gives us the opportunity to reflect on and honor the brave men and women who have served in our nation's military. As we enjoy this day of remembrance, let’s take a moment to thank a veteran, learn about their stories, and reflect on the freedoms we hold dear thanks to their service.

Here are some reminders for this week. Our FFA Poinsettia orders begin this week, with orders due by Thursday. On Tuesday, our WCHS Beta Club sponsors the Powder Puff Football Game. On Wednesday the Pre-ACT and CCRAA exams will be administered. On Thursday, our JROTC Viking Battalion will travel to Fort Liberty for Meet Your Army Day. Report Cards will be distributed to students this Friday. On Friday, our National Honor Society Induction Ceremony will be held at 10 am in the WCHS Auditorium and Class Officer Elections will be held. On Saturday, our JROTC Viking Battalion will participate in the Whiteville Veterans Day Parade. On Friday, our Varsity Football Team hosts Union High School in our regular season finale, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 pm. Here are some reminders for this week. NC Check-Ins for English II and Math III will be administered on Wednesday. Please help us ensure our students are performing at their best on this important assessment. On Thursday, we will host a College Fair for eleventh and twelfth graders from 1:30 pm until 2:30 pm. Encourage your student to explore all available options with college representatives during this time. On Friday, our Varsity Football team hosts East Columbus, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 pm. Prior to kickoff, we will honor all of our senior football players and cheerleaders. Also, all WCHS twelfth grade students will be admitted to Friday's football game free of charge with their senior ID cards. Here are some reminders for this week. October 21 through October 25 is College Application Week, a time for seniors to complete college applications free of charge. Our Guidance Department will assist all seniors with this process. This week our FFA will attend the National Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. On Wednesday at 4:00 pm, parents are invited to attend a Teen Mental Health First Aid introductory meeting in the WCHS Media Center. Make-up pictures will be taken on Friday in the WCHS Auditorium. Our Men's Soccer team travels to East Bladen on Monday with kickoff scheduled for 6:00 pm. On Wednesday, our Men's Soccer team celebrates Senior Night versus Pender, with kickoff scheduled for 5 pm. On Friday, our Varsity Football team travels to Pender, with a gametime of 7:30 pm. Reminder: All juniors, seniors, and parents are invited to the College 101 Night at Southeastern Community College on October 23rd at 6:00 PM. The event will be in the Nesmith Building, where we’ll go over everything students need to know about preparing for college applications, financial aid, and more. It’s a great opportunity to get valuable information and ask any questions students may have about college. Plus, we’ll be serving a free pasta dinner! We’d love to have our students join us and can’t wait to see you there.

We want to remind you that Monday, October 14, is Parent-Teacher Conference Day. This is a great chance for you to meet with your child’s teacher and talk about how your child is doing in school. There will be no school for students on this day, so we can focus on these important meetings. Conferences will be held from 11:30 AM to 7:00 PM, so you can pick a time that works best for you. You can choose to meet in person or online, whichever is easier for you. During the conference, you will learn about your child’s strengths, areas where they can improve, and how we can work together to help them. To set up your conference, please reach out to your child’s teacher. Thank you for supporting your child’s learning!

On Tuesday, our Math 2 students will take the PSAT. On Tuesday, our FFA and Cheer squad compete at the Columbus County Fair. On Thursday, our FFA compete in the Federation Truck & Tractor Competition. On Saturday, our Dance Team performs at Southeastern Community College at 11:30 am and at the Columbus County Fair at 3:00 pm. On Monday, our Men's Soccer team plays at Trask. On Tuesday and Wednesday, our Women's Tennis Team competes in the Conference Tournament at East Bladen High School. On Wednesday, our Volleyball teams travel to East Bladen and on Thursday our Volleyball teams host Pender for Senior Night. First serve for volleyball matches is scheduled for 4:30 pm. On Friday, our Varsity football team plays at South Columbus, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 pm.
