🌞 WCS Third Graders Study Shadows! 🌞

Our third graders are diving into their science unit on shadows this week! Today, they became real scientists by experimenting with their own shadows throughout the day.

With the guidance of Mrs. Hough, Mrs. Freeman, and Mrs. Lennon, students went outside at 8:40 a.m., 12:20 p.m., and 2:15 p.m. to observe how the sun’s position changes the size and direction of their shadows. They were amazed to see how much their shadows moved and stretched as the day went on!

Learning is always better when it’s hands-on — and today, science came to life! 🌤️✨

The Columbus County Fire Marshal’s Office, in conjunction with the Office of the State Fire Marshal, is proud to announce that we have received 1,000 smoke detectors donated by Kidde, one of the nation’s leading fire safety product manufacturers. These detectors will be distributed throughout the county in recognition of Fire Safety Month.

Each fire department within Columbus County has been supplied with an allotment of these smoke detectors for installation in homes across their respective districts.

We encourage all families throughout the county to take advantage of this free smoke detector check and installation program. This initiative ensures that every home has properly functioning and up-to-date smoke detectors. If any detectors are found to be outdated, missing, or not working, new ones will be installed free of charge.

Our 2nd Grade students have been learning all about the different types of weather — focusing on what happens when sunlight and rain work together… a rainbow! ✨
This week, our scientists had the chance to grow their own rainbow using paper towels, markers, and water! 💧🎨 It was the perfect way to see color mixing and science come to life!
