Substitute Update Training This Summer!

This leadership series is designed specifically for assistant principals preparing for the next step, focusing on key areas such as strategic school improvement, team leadership, budgeting, and effective decision-making. Participants also engage in real-world scenarios, collaboration, and even mock interviews to strengthen their readiness for the principalship.
We are thankful for leaders like Mrs. Cartrette who are dedicated to learning, growing, and bringing that knowledge back to support our students, staff, and school community here at West Columbus!

The Secret Geographer left our students a messed-up map and the challenge of locating the lost classroom dice. Their first field mission was to work together to find clues hidden around the courtyard that would lead them to the missing dice.
Each clue contained a piece of a torn map. When our students worked together and put all the pieces together, they discovered something exciting—it formed a map of our school!
Our junior geographers successfully used teamwork, problem-solving, their coordinates, and their map skills to complete the mission. 🗺️

Thank you to Rusty Davis for visiting our 2nd graders for Read Across America Week! 📚
He shared two fun Dr. Seuss stories, Yertle the Turtle and In a People House.
A special thank you also to Alexandra Barnhill Lee, EMS Instructor and Clinical Coordinator at Southeastern, for coming to read to our 2nd graders! She read I’m a Paramedic, shared a special treat with our students, and even showed them how she checks heart rhythm as part of her job.
We appreciate these community leaders for taking the time to inspire our classes and help us celebrate Read Across America Week! 📚

As part of our March Madness Challenge, this week, students turned learning time into MOVEMENT time—combining rigorous thinking with relay races, partner games, math manipulatives and lots of smiles as they showed what they know. Thank you to our teachers for designing engaging, standards-based activities that get bodies AND brains moving, and to our students for giving their best effort on every play. Columbus County Schools is all in on making learning active, joyful, and challenging—on and off the court! Check out the video: https://youtu.be/3WZen5ASBW0
