💪 Character in Action at WCS! 💪

Our WCS K–2 students and teachers have been busy bringing our Character Word of the Month—Determination to life! Throughout the hallways, classes worked together to design creative bulletin boards that highlight what it means to keep trying, work hard, and never give up.

From colorful illustrations to inspiring messages, these boards are a wonderful reminder that big goals are reached one determined step at a time.

We are proud of our young learners for showing perseverance and teamwork while creating these meaningful displays. Be sure to check out the photos to see their hard work and creativity! 🌟📚

Even though National School Social Work Week was last week, we couldn’t let it pass without recognizing someone who truly makes a difference. 💙

This year’s theme, “Unite to Ignite: Celebrating Our Impact,” perfectly describes the dedication and heart that school social workers bring to their students, schools, and communities every single day.

A special shoutout to Kristen Britt for the compassion, support, and advocacy you provide. The work you do matters more than most people ever see, and so many lives are better because of it. Thank you for helping ignite positive change. ✨

More pictures from Friday's dress up as your favorite book character day and parade. Mrs. Hough dressed up as Mrs. Frizzle and several of her students dressed up as some of the passengers/students in Mrs. Frizzle's school bus.

Thing 1 and Thing 2 and 3 and 4 were also popular character choices for the parade.

Wondering how schools move through the challenge... from Rankings → Sweet 12 → Elite 8 → Final 4 → Champion? 🏀

Here’s the game plan:
Week 1: Rankings based on lesson plans, student learning tasks and classroom walkthrough data.
Week 2: Sweet “12” – schools compete in pools with a focus on RIGOR.
Week 3: Elite 8 – competition focus shifts to ENGAGEMENT.
Week 4: Final 4 – schools must show BOTH rigor and engagement across classrooms.
Week 5: Championship game and celebrations before Spring Break.

Every task submitted and every walkthrough completed is a “possession” that can earn points.
Play hard, learn hard, have fun!

Wacky, tacky, and full of fun at WCS! 🤪🎉

Today, our Warriors showed off their wildest styles for Wacky Tacky Wednesday, and the smiles were just as bright as the outfits! Even more special, we welcomed senior student athletes from West Columbus High School who visited our campus to read with several of our classes.

It was a great day of laughter, learning, and leadership in action! 💙📚

Leadership in action! 🙌✨

On our last teacher workday, a dedicated group of 8th graders stepped up and showed what it truly means to lead during our **When Students Lead Retreat**. While it may have been a day off for students, these incredible young leaders chose to come in, collaborate, and grow together.

Throughout the day, they built leadership skills, strengthened teamwork, and brainstormed ways to make a positive impact in our school community. Their commitment, maturity, and enthusiasm were inspiring to see! 💙👏

Learning has never looked so delicious! 🌞🍎🐛

Our amazing 5th graders had a blast creating edible food webs using snacks to represent the sun, producers, consumers, and decomposers! From energy flowing from the sun to plants, animals, and even decomposers, students got a hands-on (and tasty!) way to see how everything in an ecosystem is connected.

There was so much creativity, teamwork, and thoughtful discussion happening — and maybe a few sneaky bites along the way! 😉

We love bringing science to life in ways that make learning memorable and fun. Check out these future ecologists in action!
